Today Is JUNETEENTH

ToDAy is June 19, 2026

On this day, in 1865, formerly enslaved Africans were finally set free through the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Constitutional Amendment; marking a new beginning in America. While the writ was proposed and passed by Congress, and scheduled to be effective at midnight on January 1st, 1865, the adherence to such a revolutionary doctrine relied heavily on the support and enforcement of the Union army. Throughout the Civil War, widespread support for the act of slavery was already seeing it’s end fast approaching, and by Summer of 1865, the high majority of states had already outright banned the practice. On June 19th 1865, a force of 2,000 Union soldiers, under the orders of Major General Gordon Granger, marched to definitively enforce the Proclamation in parts of Texas and finally put an end to the War.

Juneteenth, ratified into Federal Holiday status in 2021, celebrates the liberation of all enslaved people in America…just as importantly, this day serves as a reminder of the strength, beauty and perseverance of a nation working as one toward a common goal. If they did it once, we can do it again, so let’s do it already. We all belong to the same race made up of a huge number of ethnicities made up of an incalculable number of personalities, and potentials, and uniquely valuable perspectives. Variety is the key to life, truly anything short of that isn’t doing the concept justice. Happy Juneteenth! Remember today to thank a random someone, and mean it! Be well, be blessed…//\\//\\

‘THIS IS AMERICA, THEY DO NOT SEE U.S.’

When I first was taught about Reconstruction 1865-1877, as a young man with rose-colored glasses, I foolishly thought that the 12 years was just the time it took for a nation to grow united. Obviously, with little digging, it was not nearly as quick and clean as the history textbooks will report; the effort to be thwarted via political means, and not moral ones. As we stumble into our 250th year as a nation, its is only evident that the lessons from the past have yet to be taught.

“My simple prayer today is that we all can grow enough to acknowledge our own failings to one another sans judgement, and embrace true strength as a humble confidence rather than performative glory.” -//\\//\\

AMERICAN MATH:

ME x ME=MEME

ME + ME = U.S.

THEY DO NOT SEE U.S.
